What do I do when I get stuck?

What do I do when I get stuck?

The sense of feeling stuck is a natural occurrence in the change process. It can be a coping strategy for maintaining the status quo. It can also offer preparation time for new beginnings.

If you are feeling stuck as you go through this process of discovery, I invite you to lean into the feeling. Ask yourself what you need in order to move forward. Identify the source of the “stuck” feeling. Feeling stuck can be about the uncertainty associated with change, and awareness is the first step in getting unstuck.

What can I begin today?

What can I begin today?
Beginnings can be easy and sometimes they can be a bit of a challenge. When starting feels like a challenge, I suggest using the swiss cheese approach. Unlike a solid block of cheese, swiss cheese has lots of holes in it. As you begin a project, break it into small chunks and tackle one chunk at a time.

So, when you ask yourself, what can I begin today, give some consideration to the swiss cheese approach and identify one thing that you can do today. The strategy is to take the “big thing” that you are wanting to tackle, break it down into small chunks or activites that would take about 20-30 minutes to complete, and then work on one chunk.

May the swiss cheese approach help you begin today.

Warm regards

How do I catch my Dream?

A client once asked me to help him catch a Dream. I recall feeling privileged to be invited on such a deeply personal quest, and the question How do I catch my Dream is a question that prompts a question. The question is: What’s the dream you want to catch? Catching a dream involves an in-depth process; a process of discovery, a process of self -reflection, and of self awareness. Catching a dream also involves concentrated planning, creating a supportive environment, removing obstacles, and taking action. Over the next several weeks, we’ll be examining each of these areas to help you catch your dream.

I invite you to capture your moments of happiness over the next week. When are those times that you feel joy, bliss, or peace within you? Write down the moment with as much detail as you can. We are going to spend the next few weeks engaging in an investigation of what brings you joy.

How do I figure out what I want?

How do I figure out what I want?
This can be a challenge. We get mired in shoulds, oughts and musts in our lives and one day we wake up and can’t recall what our core self wants. The core of each of us has a unique calling and purpose and sometimes the demands of the external world drown out the voice of our wise heart.

Today I invite you to begin the process of checking in with yourself each day before you get out of bed. Complete this statement. Today I want to ……. Record your responses. Themes will begin to emerge. Wants that endure over time become elements of your ideal life. The first step is to become aware of the wants and write them down.
